Born in Bucharest. He studied at the Salzburg Mozarteum, the National Conservatory of Music and Dance in Paris and the Higher School of Music in Freiburg. His mentors were Peter Langgartner, Jean Soulem, Wolfram Krist and Christoph Wieneken.

Founder and director of the Chiemgau-Traunstein Spring Music Festival in Bavaria (Chiemgauer Musikfrühling Traunstein), the SoNoRo festivals in Bucharest and Arezzo, the Pélerinages series of chamber music concerts in Munich. In the 2019/20 season, he is Executive Director of the Europalia festival in Brussels. Conducts master classes in Europe, South America, Japan, regularly teaches at the Villa Musica Foundation in Mainz. Since 2017 he has been a visiting professor at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp.
